On October 9, Richmond came together for the 17th Annual Mill House Pig Out, the barbecue fundraiser benefiting Community Brain Injury Services (CBIS) and The Mill House. Cantor, Grana, Buckner, Bucci, P.C. was one of the event’s presenting sponsors. For our partner Elliott Buckner, it was his 17th year taking part.
Two nights at the smoker
Friday’s lunch began with work that most guests never saw. Elliott and fellow partner Scott Bucci spent two nights on the cook. CBIS Executive Director Jason Young reported that Elliott smoked more than 700 pounds of barbecue and prepared his own rub and three homemade sauces.
The effort reached back to our office, too. Stephanie Grana baked approximately 30 tins of cornbread, and CGBB staff contributed about 30 more. Our team joined the Friday lunch, alongside the neighbors, workplaces, families, and friends who supported the fundraiser.
Those contributions were part of a larger undertaking led by CBIS staff, Mill House members, board members, and volunteers. Preparing the food, organizing orders, and getting lunch into people’s hands required many people working together.

What the Pig Out supports
The Mill House is CBIS’s Richmond clubhouse for adults living with acquired brain injury. Members work alongside staff in a structured day designed to rebuild work skills, support independence, and create connections. CBIS also offers case management and employment services to people affected by brain injury.
That work continues long after the smokers are packed away. The Pig Out gives the Richmond community a way to support the people and programs behind it while sharing a meal together.
Why our firm keeps showing up
Our attorneys work with people and families whose lives have changed after serious injuries. We value the practical support CBIS provides as people work toward their goals in daily life.
Elliott has served on the CBIS board since 2011 and is now its president. Stephanie has served since 2013 and is its secretary. Their board service, the firm’s sponsorship, and the time our colleagues spent cooking and preparing food reflect a lasting commitment to this organization. You can learn more about CGBB’s community involvement and the brain injury resources we share with Virginia families.
Thank you to The Mill House members, CBIS staff, volunteers, fellow sponsors, and everyone who placed an order or helped make this year’s Pig Out possible. To learn more about the organization’s work or ways to participate, visit CBIS’s programs and volunteer page.
