On October 12, our partners joined the Brain Injury Association of Virginia (BIAV) for its 22nd Annual Charity Golf Classic at Salisbury Country Club in Midlothian. The tournament brought people together around BIAV’s work with Virginians affected by brain injury. For our firm, it was also an opportunity to continue a relationship with BIAV that reaches back more than two decades.
A tournament that brings BIAV’s community together
Now in its 22nd year, the Charity Golf Classic gives BIAV’s supporters an occasion to gather around a shared purpose. BIAV works to improve the quality of life for people affected by brain injury through education, awareness, support, treatment, and research. Its work continues throughout the year, long after the golfers have left the course.
Among its services, BIAV offers free, confidential consultations and referrals to individuals and families. It also provides education and training for the wider community. After a brain injury, questions about care, daily life, and available resources do not arrive all at once. Having a place to turn for information and connection can matter at every stage.
The Classic also helps BIAV continue Camp Bruce McCoy, its residential camp and respite program. Adults living with brain injury can spend time with peers and enjoy activities adapted to their abilities, while family members and caregivers have an opportunity for respite. It is one example of the work this annual gathering helps sustain.

A relationship built through service
Our connection to BIAV did not begin with this year’s tournament. Irv Cantor, a founding partner whose practice has focused heavily on traumatic brain injury, served as BIAV’s president from 2004 to 2006. He has remained involved, and BIAV recognized his longstanding contributions with its Anne McDonnell Legacy Award in 2023.
Today, Joseph Cantor serves as BIAV’s board president, a role he has held since 2024 after joining the board in 2022. Scott Bucci served on the board from 2016 to 2019. Their service reflects a lasting commitment across our firm to an organization that helps people and families navigate life after brain injury.
That connection extends beyond our partners’ board service. Anne McDonnell, who spent more than 20 years as BIAV’s executive director, is now CGBB’s director of brain injury and spinal cord injury services. An occupational therapist, Anne helps our clients and families through the litigation and trial process. Her years at BIAV are part of the experience she brings to that work.
Continuing to show up
Our partners were glad to be part of this year’s Classic. We thank BIAV’s staff and volunteers, along with the golfers, sponsors, and other supporters who helped bring the tournament together. We value the chance to stand with BIAV and the Virginia brain injury community.
