Community Brain Injury Services
Community Brain Injury Services (CBIS) helps build back independence by working with persons with brain injury to help them live safely and independently, reengage with their community, return to competitive employment, and find a supportive network of peers.
CBIS operates two clubhouse programs – The Mill House in Richmond and The Denbigh House in Newport News. Clubhouse programs emphasize the power of work and offer an array of vocational services by helping individuals work on the socioemotional, cognitive, and behavioral changes following a brain injury. Their Case Management programs in Richmond and Newport News work with survivors and their treatment teams to identify and implement critical resources and supports that ensure health, safety, and accessibility.
Our partners Stephanie Grana and Elliott Buckner have been Board members for many years, and believe in the CBIS mission, so much so that Elliott is Board President!

Brain Injury Solutions
Brain Injury Solutions was founded in 2000 by Fran and Greg Rooker, who encountered a lack of services for their son who acquired a brain injury. Starting in the New River Valley of Virginia, they now serve over 30 counties and cover all of Southwest and parts of Central and Southside Virginia. Their main service is community-based case management for children and adults; they also offer support groups, telehealth support/informative groups, a buddy program, and community support specialist services. All their services are provided for free.
United Spinal Association of Virginia
Founded in 2015, the United Spinal Association of Virginia supports and provides resources to persons with spinal cord injury or disease and assists them in achieving their highest level of health, independence, and quality of life.
The chapter educates newly injured individuals, their families, and the public about the needs of persons with spinal cord injury and disease, and the importance of creating an environment of greater independence for all. They offer a variety of services and a wealth of knowledge towards unlocking the door for active living with a spinal cord injury.
Most notably, their Peer and Family Mentoring program matches mentors to mentees to help navigate the early challenges of adapting to an SCI; programs also includes a ramp project, equipment closet, legislative advocacy, support groups, and educational workshops.

SupportWorks Housing (aka) Virginia Supportive Housing
Virginia Supportive Housing provides permanent supportive housing and case management to help individuals reclaim their lives. In 2005, through a partnership with HIGH Hopes, they established the first income-based community home for those living with a brain injury in Richmond to provide not only affordable housing, but also brain injury specific support services to help residents become more independent by accessing community resources for basic human needs, re-learning certain skills, and achieving goals related to work, health and safety. In 2007, VSH opened a second community home, Bliley Manor. VSH’s brain injury program expanded services in 2018 to provide case management services to individuals with brain injury in Richmond who are homeless or at-risk of becoming homeless. All services are free to program participants.

Longevity Home Solutions
Longevity Home Solutions was born out of the necessity that millions experience today – aging-in-place remodels. Owner Rick Byers, was born into the construction industry and has practiced many aspects of residential new construction, multi-family, lite commercial and development but his experience with aging parents beginning in the early 2000s changed the course of his career and business goals. Adaptability seems to be the key to dealing with life’s challenges. Many people today face changes in their health, lifestyle, and family and find it necessary to adapt their homes to those changes. Aging parents, working from home, children, and a change in someone’s health can cause a person to wonder how they will function in their home.
